Myrtle Beach is a destination wedding town, which means the good Saturdays go early and the vendors who are worth having are booked by people who planned ahead. Here is how far out you really need to be.
The short version
- Peak Saturdays (April to June, September to November): book your DJ nine to twelve months out. The best dates on the coast are gone a year ahead.
- Fridays, Sundays and off-season: four to six months is usually fine.
- Inside eight weeks: call us. We keep a roster of six DJs for exactly this reason, and we can often cover a date a single DJ cannot.
Why DJs book up before you expect
A DJ can only be in one room on a Saturday night. Unlike a florist or a photographer who can take on more work with more staff, every DJ has exactly 52 Saturdays a year, and about 20 of them are the dates everyone wants. Multiply that by the number of couples who booked their venue in January for an October wedding, and the math is simple.
Companies with a roster solve part of this. At Pierpoint, six DJs means six Saturdays a week, and a backup if someone is sick. But even a roster fills, and the DJ you want for your specific night is still one person.
Book the DJ right after the venue
Most couples book in this order: venue, photographer, DJ. We would move the DJ up. The venue sets the date, the DJ runs the timeline, and both the photographer and the planner work around what the DJ announces and when. Booking the DJ early means the person running your reception is in the planning conversation from the start instead of being handed a schedule in the last two weeks.
What to have ready when you reach out
You do not need a playlist. You need the date, the venue, a rough guest count and whether you want ceremony sound and cocktail hour music, or just the reception. With that, we can tell you same day whether the date is open and send a quote within one business day. Our wedding inquiry form checks the date against our calendar as you type, so you know before you hit send.
Check your wedding date now, even if you are early. Early is the whole point.
Questions couples ask
Can I hold a date without paying?
A date is held when the agreement is signed and the deposit is in. We will tell you honestly if someone else is asking about the same date.
What if we have not picked a venue yet?
Ask anyway. We can tell you which dates are open and hold a conversation open while you decide on the room.
Do you do last-minute weddings?
Often, yes. Call rather than email if the wedding is inside a month.
